2022 DISABILITY COHORT

Diana “D” wasn’t always a filmmaker. Before writing screenplays and making movies, she was a social worker for at-risk youth: incarcerated, runaway and homeless kids in Hollywood. Later, D sought to bring awareness to these issues through film and television. D’s experience in writing and production combined with her passion for social justice drove her to write and produce the film, Niña Quebrada, which chronicles the horrors of sex trafficking. The film was well-received, gaining recognition and awards at many festivals domestically and internationally. D faced her own challenge in 2018 when she started relying on a wheelchair for her mobility. After many years as a film producer, she decided to achieve her dream of becoming a TV writer. D wrote the ‘Danny’ episodes for the web-series My Life is Worth Living, about a young man learning to live with a recent arm amputation. She has participated in various industry fellowships to hone her writing/producing skills and was a Writers’ Assistant on the CW reboot of 4400. Currently, Diana just wrapped season 5 of Freeform’s (ABC/Disney) Good Trouble in the same capacity. Most recently, D was certified as a Teaching Artist and will be teaching creative writing in community organizations.
