FAQs

  • Any Los Angeles-based writer of color over the age of 21 who has not previously been staffed in a writers room is eligible to apply.

  • We designed this fellowship with these specific communities in mind because their stories and identities are vastly underrepresented in Hollywood. If you don't fall into one of these communities, we'd love for you to help us spread the word and share this opportunity with any writers you know from these communities.

  • All applicants will be alerted of their application status in late July. However, due to the high volume of applications, we cannot give individual feedback on any applications. If you don’t make it to this year’s program, we encourage you to apply again the following year.

  • Fellows get a $10,000 honorarium paid out in four installments throughout the fellowship. This will be considered taxable income by the IRS.

  • Beginning August 13 through October 17, we will be meeting every Tuesday and Thursday (time TBD). These meetings will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual meetings. Some of the meetings will be used for masterclasses and others for you to meet with your cohort. We ask that you commit to attending all meetings as this is how you will build real connections with your cohort.

  • No, you will need to make your own arrangements.

  • Mentors’ commitment to the program is to meet with fellows at least once a month. They will meet with you via Zoom or phone meetings. Longer meetings with mentors will be up to their availability. Think of your mentor as someone who can answer questions about your work or the industry overall. We ask fellows to use their first meeting with your mentor to let them know what is the best way they can support you.

  • Writing coaches will have monthly virtual office hours where you can come to them with specific questions about the script you are working on.

  • No.

  • You are welcome to submit comedy and drama writing samples. However, you will only be able to workshop one pilot throughout the fellowship.

  • Yes. Make sure that the logline you submit is the TV pilot that you want to workshop during the fellowship. Use these 3 months to work on that pilot that you’ve been putting off and that you’re really passionate about!

  • It is entirely up to you. This year we will have two tracks: one track is for fellows who decide to workshop an existing script and the other track is for fellows who want to start a script from scratch. It is up to you to use this time using the resources we offer to complete as much as you can from your pilot. You are expected to complete at least 10 pages of the script for the Disruptors Showcase.

  • At the end of the fellowship, we will hire professional actors to do a table reading of a 10-page excerpt of your pilot! Showcase will be in person and will take place in Los Angeles, CA in November (date TBD). This showcase will be managed by an executive director, all you have to worry about is workshopping your pilot.
